About the speakers: René Poggione and Susel Biondi founded POGGIONE+BIONDI ARCHITECTS in 1999 with the goal of creating sustainable architecture for all their projects of every scale and type, with a particular focus on social housing. Their architecture is both humanly sensitive and environmentally responsible. Poggione+Biondi Architects is a founding member of the Peruvian Association of Architectural Studies. The practice has received national and international recognition for its projects and track record. In 2021 Susel Biondi was invited to join the Board of Directors of PLEA, an international network of professionals committed to sustainable architecture and urban design.
About the talk: René and Susel will present some of their most acclaimed buildings including the Campo Oeste House in Cieneguilla and the Verdea apartments and hotel in Miraflores. The lecture will conclude with the presentation of Construye para Crescer (“Build to grow”) a self-build social housing scheme in Lima conceived in defense of the Amazon and driven by the will to formulate architectural and environmental responses to the socio-economic tensions created by fast-growing deforestation. Susel’s visit to London was an invitation from the PLEA Board, to take part in the PLEA Day 2025, a day of activities of the PLEA Board with Associates, Past Directors and architectural Students, hosted by the AA School of Architecture, in London.
