Obituary Willi Weber (1945-2026)

Willi Weber 1944-2026

Willi was an architect and Professor of Building Physics at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. As the director of CUEPE (Centre Universitaire d’Etude des Problemes de l’Energie) between 2000-2008 his research teams collaborated with many other European researchers in a number of pioneering projects. Earlier he had spent a year at the AA Graduate School in London where his amiable personality and sharp critical mind made him a lifelong friend and collaborator in research and environmental design education. Joining PLEA as an Associate Willi was an active and regular participant from the outset, eventually taking on the challenge to organise PLEA 2006 Clever Design, Affordable Comfort: a Challenge for Low Energy Architecture and Urban Planning held in Geneva in September 2006. Fourteen of the research papers presented at that conference became the subjects of Lessons from Vernacular Architecture, a book he edited with Simos Yannas, published in 2013.

He died in March 2026. He will be greatly missed.
