Rajat GUPTA (PLEA Board Secretary)

Professor Rajat Gupta is Director of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development and the Low Carbon Building Research Group at Oxford Brookes University, UK. He holds a senior professorial chair in Sustainable Architecture and Climate Change and is internationally recognised for his research on the decarbonisation and climate resilience of the built environment.

His work focuses on building performance, smart local energy systems, large-scale energy retrofit, heat adaptation, and the health impacts of climate change. As Principal and Co-Investigator, he has secured over £21 million in competitive research funding from UK Research Councils, UK Government, Innovate UK and the European Union.

Rajat is currently Director of the £7.4 million UKRI-funded National Hub on Net Zero Health and Extreme Heat (HEARTH) and Co-Lead of the £7.3 million UKRI-funded INHABIT Hub on impacts of retrofitting on indoor environments and health. He advises the UK Ministry of Justice on overheating risks in buildings. Rajat is ranked among the top 2% of scientists globally (Stanford University’s 2025 World’s Top 2% Scientists list) and was featured in the 2025 ENDS Power List as one of the UK’s Top 100 Environmental Professionals.
